My immediate answer YES YES YES YES, but I’m getting ahead of myself. For over a year now, it’s been circulating around the web that the main villain for Star Wars: The Force Awakens Supreme Leader Snoke (played by the ever talented Andy Serkis) is in fact Sith Lord Darth Plagueis. For those of you who don’t know who he is, Plagueis (who masqueraded as Hugo Damask of the Intergalactic Banking Clan or IBC) was the Sith master to Darth Sidious  Sidious speaks of him to Anakin during the Opera House scene in Revenge of the Sith (which while I may be in a minority absolutely love it to death) telling him he had to the ability to bring people back to life or prevent them from dying; so as to (successfully) tempt him over to the Dark Side so he can save his beloved wife Padme Amidala.

By the end of scene, he says that his apprentice (meaning Sidious himself) had killed him in his sleep. He said that it was ironic that while he saved others from death, he failed to save himself. In the book Darth Plagueis written by James Luceno, it had been planned out originally that Plagueis would be appointed by Palpatine as Co-Chancellor once he was elected. But Sidious obviously had different plans in mind and killed his master. Or did he?

What if Plagueis had managed to bring himself back to life and worked from the shadows? I think what happened afterwards is that as opposed to killing Sidious for betraying him, he decided to work from the shadows and let Sidious think he was the only Sith Lord around (that is not counting Sith apprentices like Dooku and/or Vader). I think he was working secretly to advance his power in the Dark Side while Sidious was out making havoc running the Galactic Empire. I even believe that he foresaw to some extent the downfall of the Empire. So after the second Death Star’s destruction, he manipulated his way through the moths jockeying for power and eventually became the new Emperor basically. He may had even created the Knights of Ren as well to have a loyal following Darksiders.

Yes, I know the book Plagueis is no longer official canon, but most of the material in there (as well as a good lot of the other Legends material) fit into the canon perfectly. Yes there’s been an emphasis away from aspects of the PT especially with JJ Abrams on board who hasn’t much love for it like a good many fans. But there’s much good in the PT as well that’s worth including in The Force Awakens and it’s impossible to entirely disassociate from the Prequels as they’re 100% solid undeniable canon for better or for worse.

Yes they’re explicitly ignoring midi-clorians, but fans aren’t gonna have heart attacks if say Coruscant or Naboo were mentioned casually. Plus many of the other canon source material such as the novels and comic books have made explicit mention of PT era stuff and no one’s died of a heart attack.Anyways as I was saying, I think there’s very strong evidence to support that Snoke is Plagueis.

Another significant piece is an interview with Daisy Ridley who’s playing Rey in the film (who I must is the hottest female in Star Wars since Padme Amidala) has been shown with a staff in advertising since the first teaser came out a year ago. People have speculated that it’s a saberstaff; perhaps even Plagueis’ staff as it looks very much like the one seen with the Plagueis action figures. In an Entertainment Weekly interview, she commented on speculation about the staff being Plagueis saying the following:

“I mean everyone is praying that it’s Darth Plagueis’s staff. But… it’s just a staff. She’s a young woman in a galaxy by herself. It’s not primarily a weapon, it’s useful as well. It does all sorts of things roamin’ around Jakku. She uses it to defend herself. That’s really as far as it goes, unfortunately.”

Now this could mean a lot of things. It could be true that it’s just a staff, but something tells me there’s more to it than that. I mean like I said, it’s been heavily featured in advertising since the original teaser dropped last year. If it wasn’t so significant as Ridley said, then it wouldn’t have been made such a big deal. In the main poster, you see her holding it parallel to Kylo Ren’s lightsaber (who maybe siblings or cousins I think). I think it’s a 50-50 chance that it ends up being Plagueis’ staff. If it isn’t, then I think there’s a good chance of it being a Sith artifact of some sort.

Last piece I’ll put which I think solidifies the Plagueis theory is an interview Andy Serkis did with Entertainment Weekly in which he said the following:

“Supreme Leader Snoke is quite an enigmatic character, and strangely vulnerable at the same time as being quite powerful,” Serkis says. “Obviously he has a huge agenda. He has suffered a lot of damage. As I said, there is a strange vulnerability to him, which belies his true agenda, I suppose.”

Now if I’m totally wrong about the whole Plagueis theory, I think this character sounds incredibly interesting and badass. But then there’s the following:

While Abrams has emphasized a return to practical effects on The Force Awakens, is Snoke perhaps a character who could have been played by Serkis in make-up?

“No, no,” the actor says. “The scale of him, for instance, is one reason. He is large. He appears tall. And also just the facial design – you couldn’t have gotten there with prosthetics. It’s too extreme. Without giving too much away at this point, he has a very distinctive, idiosyncratic bone structure and facial structure. You could never have done it [in real life.]”

I think there’s some very key things here. George Lucas was insistent that Plagueis be a muun which is seen in the PT and The Clone Wars TV series (both the original Tartakovsky micro-series and the animated CG one). And I think it too much a coincidence to say that he just happens to be muun. Muuns are humanoid but it’s impossible to do them practically as they’re tall and elongated. Yes JJ Abrams had denied that Snoke was Plagueis but this is the same guy who deliberately misled everyone on Star Trek Into Darkness saying Benedict Cumberbatch wasn’t playing Khan. Well we know now he is indeed Khan. So I’ll end with what I started saying yes Snoke is most definitely Darth Plagueis.

What are you guys’ thoughts on the matter? You agree or disagree? Are you gonna go see The Force Awakens? Let me know in the comments section. Have a great day and may the Force always be with you.

PS: Why is it Daisy Ridley gets to keep her accent and John Boyega doesn’t? Also; I think Rey is Luke Skywalker’s daughter.
